words and photos by Terembe Cherono
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the biggest book sale in the world. The Big Bad Wolf is a global book fair that sells hundreds of thousands of books at really affordable prices. It was first launched in Malaysia in 2009 to cultivate reading habits and inspire a new generation of readers by making books accessible and affordable. This is the second Big Bad Wolf book fair in Kenya, after a successful run in November.
Here’s a photo diary of my experience at the fair…
Arriving at the book fair. It’s at the Sarit Expo Centre near the food court on the top floor terrace.
Some of the discounts on books. Up to 95%!
This banner had the price list which was really helpful!
Spotted some books perfect for kids! Not me on auntie mode lol.
Some of the books that caught my eye
Here’s what I picked up at the book fair…
My purchases were mostly coffee table books (a couple for me, the rest for my friends) and they were all under Kshs 1,000. Felt like a steal!
What to Expect
- Lots of books – the widest selection I’ve seen! You’re bound to find unique titles and classic texts. They 500,000 copies of 15,000 different titles.
- Huge discounts – Books from Kshs 100 onwards and discounts of up to 95%
- Fast moving queues – if you go to the fair at peak hours (usually lunch or afternoon hours) you’ll probably find a number of people in line but don’t be intimidated! The staff at the counter are quite efficient and helpful.
The fair is currently on until December 25th at Sarit Expo Centre from 9am to 9pm. Certainly worth checking out!
